That ever-elusive “hourglass” … 😯
We kind of wonder what percentage of women actually have this perfect figure.
We think it’s safe to say that we fems in America do feel we should have -or appear to have- a waistline. Our middle should look smaller than our top and bottom.
Message: And until we have it, we aren’t quite where we need to be.
Right?
Is that how it feels to you? Diets, scales, grams of whatever, number of steps, gym classes, so many different ways to get there!
😳 Is this insanity… trying so hard to look like something we are not?
Maybe at some point we finally learned to be ok with being short [petite] or slim build or whatever our “figure flaws” are. Hopefully. 👍🏼
In addition to that - as fashion emphasized curves more and more with tighter fitting clothes in some years, I witnessed even more that I didn’t have the ideal body to look great in the tops and bottoms in the stores. Definitely felt not perfect enough, not sexy enough, just not quite something enough. Not happy with myself. ☹️
Fems, I know you can relate to this! No matter how attractive you may be, you still know the feeling of being “not-quite-there.”
May I tell you what finally made me see how ridiculous this was? 😬
Again, thank goodness for living in this country with so many different cultures.
It FINALLY dawned on me that certain body types look better in those styles than other body types. Wow. Really? Lol
And certain cultures can have fuller figures than others. *Those* cultures generally have a body type that looks good in these fashions, 🚫 but not my culture, not this body type.
It really wasn’t about my body being inadequate - not <something> enough. It was the fashion industry’s trend that was optimized to a certain group, and that group was not me. Ohhhhh.
That was really big. 💡
Then I started to check clothing in the olden days before modern fashion - historic/ancient traditional dress for women in my culture and nearby, similar cultures. Then farther, distant countries out of curiosity.
Guess what I found?
Some of those historic traditional outfits in my culture were loose and flowy (no waist), kind of wispy and romantic - a style I actually love! 🪡
In fact they looked familiar - like some paintings in my parents’ home that I never really thought about too much.
[Detail - Later they designed a more form-fitting dress, but it still flattered my body type and created a nice hourglass silhouette. LOL]
Now… would those loose wispy dresses look good on the women who look fabulous in curvy fashions? Pethaps not. But they are gorgeous on my body type. (And I bet the ancient historical dresses in their own culture are breathtaking on their own body type.)
To loop back to the original point of a defined waist, these ancient cultural dresses did not have one! No waistline! Imagine my shock! 🤪
THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC ANCIENT DRESSES FOR ROYALTY DID NOT HAVE A WAISTLINE!
Our original assumption that the hourglass is a universal standard? Thrown out the window. 🎉 Yay! Not in my culture!
So what’s the point of all that?? ☝🏼 Lol
The point is that we do not have to force ourselves into fashion trends. They may look great on us, and they may also look terrible. Not a big deal!
The more recent trend of a tunic or a long shirt over skinny jeans or leggings was a huge exception. No defined waistline there.
With the incredible body we have, we can create our own style that capitalizes on our own distinct features. ❤️
We actually think trends are very fun - almost like following current events.
