Beauty… Simply defined and broadly applied
What is beauty?
Well, most of us know what we mean by “beauty,” but we don’t necessarily stop to define it. In our EHSWO simpletons’ terms we might say, “looks or sounds really nice,” which is not very useful at all. Lol 🙄
After searching a few definitions, we decided we will say beauty is:
** the quality(ies) which is/are pleasing to the mind or to the senses. **
We hope that’s simple. 👍🏼
The reason we are taking a minute ⏰ to perform this little exercise is to convey to everyone that we are speaking of more than pretty flowers, stunning scenery, gorgeous outfits, perfect facial/anatomical features.
We are applying this label of beauty to the mind and all senses as described above.
Broadly applied. 🌍 🌎 🌏
In other words, there is probably an infinite list of examples of beauty. Here are just a few which may be familiar:
- a well-organized garage
- the delighted laugh of a toddler
- a complex and tightly structured computer program
- an artistically landscaped and carefully maintained garden
- a mouth-watering, delectable dessert
- a solidly built backyard shed
- the innocence of young animals
- a superbly polished classical antique car
- a clean kitchen!
- a precisely functioning [insert your favorite beauty aid or mechanical device]
- fresh scent right after the rain
- a logically formulated lesson plan
- an amazing athletic performance
- an ornately decorated holiday dinner table
- a perfectly poured and diagonally scored concrete patio
- of course, works of visual art, great music, culinary genius, etc.
- French soap or shampoo from Marseille 🇫🇷
- Cannot forget: the sound of your beloved pet snoring 🐾 (see above photo)
The list goes on forever!
Let’s keep a very expansive idea of beauty.
Everyone has something wonderful to offer.
Why this post on beauty? Well, Fems, a lot of friends have courageously jumped into the world of weird stuff and are a bit discouraged (to put it mildly) at what’s happening. They have asked how we can live a happy life after learning about such horrendous crimes and incomprehensible cruelty.
One answer that I learned, most recently emphasized by influencer Laura Aboli - is to balance it with the good stuff. Keep our eyes, our hearts open to the wonderful things of this world. There is so much joy to be experienced in the little things.
And as we go through our day, take note of these bright spots of joy. Celebrate people and all the incredible things they do. Every act of kindness deserves recognition.
And we can call out beauty in so many different ways. People don’t do that very much, we noticed, but it’s so easy, and… it’s free! We can do it and make someone’s day. Plus we feel great about it.
We think we can counteract the nasty, weird stuff by doing really good, beautiful stuff.
Female Brilliance:
1) Create beauty.
2) Nurture life.
And now for the WEIRD STUFF…
Today we’ll have some fun with a multiple choice question. You may not search for the answer before choosing. Promise? 👀
Only after you guess. 👍🏼
